NARAL Pro-Choice Massachysetts and the Planned Parenthood Advocacy
Fund Back Walz in the 8TH Suffolk House Race
NARAL Pro-Choice Massachusetts and the Planned Parenthood Advocacy Fund
have endorsed Marty Walz in the race to replace retiring State Representative
Paul Demakis.
“NARAL Pro-Choice Massachusetts is very proud to endorse Marty Walz for State Representative,” announced Melissa Kogut, the organization’s Executive Director. “Marty serves on our Board of Directors. We have seen her at work and know she is hardworking, thoughtful, and passionate.”
“Marty is a strong defender of women’s rights who will be a leader on equality and freedom of choice. The Planned Parenthood Advocacy Fund endorses her with enthusiasm,” said Dianne Luby, the President of the Advocacy Fund. “As a civil rights lawyer, Marty brings expertise that will be invaluable in the Legislature.”
“At a time when we do not have pro-choice majority in the Massachusetts House of Representatives, Marty will be a pro-choice leader we can count on,” NARAL’s Melissa Kogut said. “We need legislators who will fight for women’s access to emergency contraception and who will stand up to those who want to turn back the clock to an era when women were denied reproductive freedom.”
“While voters tend to focus on the national election, here in Massachusetts we have a great deal at stake. In the last legislative session alone, 25 anti-choice bills were filed on Beacon Hill, while anti-choice legislators succeeded in keeping key pro-choice bills from coming up for a vote in the House,” explained Luby.
“It is hard to believe that in Massachusetts we are still fighting to expand access to contraception and guarantee freedom of choice, but, sadly, that is the case. If I am elected, I will make sure our hard-won rights are protected,” said Marty Walz.
Walz received 73% of the vote in the Democratic primary election, winning every precinct in the district. She faces a Republican in the general election on November 2. For more information, visit www.martywalz.com.
