Seniors
The high cost of prescription drugs is a constant concern for our seniors and their families. Marty will continue to fight to ensure adequate funding for the Prescription Advantage program because our seniors should not have to worry about paying for the medicines they need.
Building on the success of the Amber Alert to find missing children, Massachusetts now has a Silver Alert for people who have Alzheimer’s disease or other types of dementia who wander off. Marty knows this legislation will save lives.
It is crucial for seniors to have access to transportation. Programs like The Ride and SCM Community Transportation in Cambridge are especially important so that no one is isolated at home.
Seniors should not be forced out of their homes by ever increasing property taxes. Marty supported raising the property value threshold of the Senior Circuit Breaker to $600,000.
Disabled seniors eligible for nursing home placement should be able to stay in their homes longer with the help of in-home care. By supporting the Community Choice Plan for seniors, Marty has made this possible for many more seniors.
Marty understands how important the Personal Needs Allowance is to her constituents. She consistently co-sponsors legislation to increase it, but is pleased that in these difficult financial times she and others have been able to maintain it at $72.80 per month.
To protect residents of nursing homes, Marty and her colleagues approved a new law that ensures new residents of long-term care facilities and their families receive written, easy to understand information about the laws and regulations that govern these facilities.
